ISO 10-Foot Container: Fully Transportable with CSC Certification
ISO 10-foot containers can be transported without restrictions, provided their condition allows it. Like all seagoing containers, they are available used or nearly new, meaning they may have only completed one sea voyage.
The latest and best containers usually carry a CSC safety approval plate (Container Safety Convention), which certifies that they are fit for the transport of goods by sea, rail, and road. Similar to a vehicle’s MOT certificate, this approval must be renewed periodically.
If a container becomes damaged, repairs must be carried out according to the prescribed standards; otherwise, the CSC certification becomes invalid.
In addition to CSC certification, used shipping containers are classified by condition as follows:
A Grade: As good as new
B Grade: Cargo worthy (CW) – suitable for transporting goods
C Grade: Wind and watertight (WWT) – suitable only for static storage
D Grade: Severely damaged – not suitable for use without major repairs
In summary:
Grade A and B containers can be used without restriction for the transport and storage of goods.
Grade C containers are suitable only for stationary storage.
Grade D containers are unusable without significant restoration work.
